When should I start back to school shopping and what should I buy?

I last went on a huge shopping spree in around May and I sorted out my entire wardrobe about a week ago. I go back to school on September 1st and I’m wondering what I should buy and when? There aren’t many restrictions at my school about what to wear. And I’m new so what should I wear without looking desperate?
